Today is the beginning of the British Fashion Council’s first digital and gender neutral London Fashion Week. When we first sounded the alarm in 2019, we could not have predicted the upheavals the world is facing, and a digitalisation of global fashion weeks was deemed impossible. As it now happens, we must keep reminding the BFC and the global fashion industry that there is still much to do before there is a meaningful impact. The job is not done.
There is no time to waste. Ecological breakdown, mass extinction, the pandemic and social and racial injustice asks for the same thing: radical systemic transformation.
The challenge is no smaller now, than when the statements in this letter were made, and we now remind the industry that those bold words must be followed by radical action.
There is no going back. “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”
